SFD („Schutz der Fahrzeug-Diagnose“) is an access and rights management system of the Volkswagen Group, by which certain diagnostic functions on control units are only permitted with the appropriate rights. SFD („Schutz der Fahrzeug-Diagnose“) is an access and rights management system of the Volkswagen Group, by which certain diagnostic functions on control units are only permitted with the appropriate rights.
 +
+SFD was introduced with the MQB2020 (MQBevo) platform. To gain access to modifications/coding, the control unit must be unlocked with a special SFD token, which can currently only be obtained via an official UMB account (GeKo/partner company account).
 +
+SFD aims to increase security against modifications in networked vehicles. It will be introduced in two stages: Level 1 protects access to specific write services, while Level 2 provides additional tamper protection of diagnostic content.
 +
+The SFD process usually requires an online connection of the diagnostic tester. Control units such as [[BCM]] (electronic central electrics, body control module), gateway and information electronics are affected.
 +
+The SFD function is currently available in models such as the Audi A3 8Y, VW Golf 8 and ID.3. The gateway with the VAG part number 5WA 907 530 indicates a vehicle with SFD.
 +
+[[VCDS]] supports work with SFD, provided the required SFD tokens are available. A procurement option outside of a UMB account at Volkswagen is in progress.
